An Exceptionally Fine Quality Example of a Polished Brass, Ebony and Tortoiseshell Inlaid Boulle Style Travelling Writing Slope made during the first half of the Nineteenth Century, of French origin.
The entire top area decorated with premier and contra-partie inlaid scrolling arabesques depicting intricacy, opulence and masterful craftsmanship, opening to reveal a burr maple fitted interior, complete with original brass capped ink bottles. Central cartouche of lid vacant.
Condition: Good condition with nice patination, no losses or lifting to metal or tortoiseshell. There are a few dents to lid, see lower right-hand corner. Lock is present and working, lacking key. The leather inside has been professionally replaced which is beautifully tooled using genuine gold leaf decoration.
